2013 Flooring Trends

If you are simply tired of looking at your linoleum or spending time scrubbing grout lines, consider installing hardwood floors. In the kitchen it is easy on your back, easy to clean and comes in a range of color and finish options.

I very often recommend continuing hardwood floors into a kitchen when considering a kitchen remodel and have to decide on tile or hardwoods.  Especially in older homes with a smaller layout, continuing hardwoods throughout the home will create a continuous flow and make your home feel larger.

The current trend is lighter color palette in Maple, Hickory, Oak or bamboo woods in natural, bleached or white washed shades.

This trend has been coming up quietly for the past few years and I think 2013 you are going to see a lot more shift from the solid black dark hard wood colors to a lighter, airy look.

Other popular flooring material I am seeing are hardwood floor “like” porcelain tiles and metallic tiles.  They come in a variety of colors and sizes and can instantly provide a modern functionality to any room in your home.

Yes carpeting is slowly making a comeback and a patterned texture is the trend I am seeing.  Having an area rug with a modern floral texture pattern can be that pop of color and interest for your room.
